Description

Built in the 1870s, this building is unique as it is the first Canadian town hall to be used solely for municipal administration.

A great fire in 1922 completely destroyed the interior, which required reconstruction in 1923. The new Town Hall was inaugurated in 1926

In 1967, from the top of the balcony of the town hall, General Charles de Gaulle declared his famous phrase: "Long live Quebec!"
